Foundations in French Language Learning

For students to excel at the Giles School, they need to have French language experiences that include one or more of the following conditions

  • students begin in PK/JK and learn French in an immersed setting
  • one or more parents are Francophone or can speak French fluently with the child at home
  • the child has necessary French foundations from previous  immersion programs

For students transferring into the Giles School in Grades 1 to 8, we interview prospective candidates to ensure that the students have the capacity to succeed in the Giles School academic program. We are committed to helping our students learn and achieve the same level of fluency as their peers. Applicants will be considered based on their unique experiences and grasp of the French language. Once it is determined that the minimum French language experience criteria has been met, we ask candidates to participate in a brief French language ability assessment. Based on these results, we can then communicate with families if we think the candidates can thrive in our program, and keep up with their peers.
