On April 4th, 2012, the spring of last year, The Giles School entered the 12th Annual Chinese Art and Literary Contest for Youth with the intent of presenting our children an exceptional challenge – one that would inspire and motivate them to achieve the goal of acquiring the basic communication skills of their third language.

Our category was Choral Speaking (Poetry) and the Grade Four class competed against highly skilled and motivated Chinese first language private schools. A formidable task that was confronted with vigor, pride and skill.

Inspiring it was – in both directions!

The predominantly Chinese audience gave an enthusiastic and stirring round of applause at the end of our performance and, at the completion of the competition, surrounded our students and teachers and bestowed congratulatory words of praise to all.

It wasn’t just the members of the audience who were impressed – the judges awarded the school and participants with a Certificate of Honour for scoring above 80%!

It didn’t stop there – OMNI TV reported on the uniqueness of the entry of third language students and the resulting unexpected excellence of the performance.

There is more!

A year later on Apr.7, 2013, Celina Mekhail, Grade 4, represented the Giles School at The 13th Chinese Art & Literary Contest for Youth in ‘Singing in Chinese’.

She placed second!

The following weekend of April 13, 2013, the Grade 2 classes competed in the same competition as Celina.

They placed 3rd!

The Giles School prides itself in the unique and high quality language programs that it has developed. It is what sets us apart from other similar private and public schools with the same mission. We consistently place in the 98th and 99th percentile on The Canadian Test of Basic Skills (even though our language of instruction until the end of Grade 3 is French) and receive high ranking awards at Mathematics and Science competitions.

Now the Third Language program has distinguished itself!

The Giles School is where excellence in education is not only talked about but delivered each and every day. These results complement and increase our already outstanding reputation for excellence in education.

Congratulations to all staff and students involved. These incredible performances makes The Giles School community extremely proud of our students.
