THE GILES SCHOOL CHINESE NEW YEAR 2025 CELEBRATION

On Friday, January 31, The Giles School community gathered for a festive morning coffee, celebrating the Year of the Snake and embracing beloved Lunar New Year traditions. Students wore vibrant red outfits for good luck, with some adding traditional Chinese attire to the celebration. The school gifted lucky red envelopes filled with chocolate coins, fortune cookies, and oranges—symbols of prosperity, luck, and good fortune. We wish all our Asian Community families a Happy Lunar New Year!

Originating over 3,000 years ago during the Shang Dynasty, the Lunar New Year began as an agrarian ritual to celebrate the harvest and honor ancestors. The festivities last up to 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival, which starts on January 29 and ends on February 12. This festival features family reunions, traditional foods symbolizing good fortune, and cultural performances. The Year of the Snake is significant, with those born in this year regarded as wise, purposeful, and suited for leadership.
