The Giles school is heartbroken over the catastrophes in Syria and Turkiye. As parents of students in school, it is important to remember that we have a responsibility to be compassionate to those affected by natural disasters around the world. This month, we are reminded of the suffering of those in Turkiye and Syria due to a devastating earthquake.

For those of us with children at school, it is important to remember to raise awareness among our children to help them appreciate and become more compassionate to those in need. Students should be educated on disaster awareness and safety, so they can help and support those affected by such tragedies, should one occurs.

At the Giles school, students can also learn age-appropriate lessons about the disasters and how people help those in need. For example, providing information on raising funds, collecting items, and lending a helping hand. Encouraging students to research further, discuss their findings, and write letters to those affected is always helpful.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy, and all Giles families with ties to both.
