VISUAL ARTS
Art classes are a place for fun and discovery, and are essential for fostering our students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth. With separate programs of arts education across Grades 1 to 3 and Grades 4 to 8, all learners are encouraged to express themselves. We place emphasis on creating a passion for learning, instead of instilling a pass/fail mentality.
Grades 1 to 3 create imaginative, visual works of art using manipulation, hand-eye coordination, building, and vision. Our young artists make a range of two and three dimensional works of art for specific purposes and familiar audiences. These projects show our budding artists how to effectively communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings in an age appropriate way.
Diving deeper into different aspects of their own and their community’s identity, Grades 4 to 8 students acquire knowledge and specific techniques that help them to understand the art they are studying. Diversity and stereotypes are the subject of inspiration at this level, and students are guided to be able to identify the problems and support themselves and each other to reach resolution through artistic expression.
