Programme Highlights
MATH
Children from SK to grade 8 develop mathematical and problem-solving skills through our enriched math class. Challenging and engaging activities broaden math skills as children also prepare for various mathematical competitions in small groups.
EARLY ENGLISH READING
This phonics-based programme helps children entering SK and grade 1 get a start on reading. It is also useful for those who need extra help reading. The innovative approach, tailored to the abilities of each child, will provide the tools children need to be successful independent readers and writers. Children will be exposed to multiple strategies in their reading and have the opportunity to make projects based on everyday language.
MUSIC
Learning music and musical skills are a great way to improve cognitive abilities in young children and adults alike. The children will learn songs and to accompany themselves using Orff instruments. For those who are interested we have a number of recorders to try as well. In a series of hands-on activities we will do some exploring of sounds by making musical instruments and working in the computer lab to create electronic compositions.
We will sharpen students listening skills by listening to various musics from around the world and integrating this with other art activities. At the end of the week we will have a musical scavenging hunt were the students must find the missing instrument by listening to various musical clues.
COOKING WITH A FRENCH CHEF!
For grownups, spending time in a kitchen could look like a chore, but, for children, working in the kitchen is fun and exciting. They love to cook, knead and roll out dough, mixing batters, cracking eggs. They take great pride watching their friends, their parents, their teachers enjoying the food they just prepared.
But there is also an educational side to that: measuring, counting, weighing, understanding time… all that without noticing!
They will also learn:
Basic hygiene rules: washing hands, washing fruits, vegetables, using chopping boards, checking the sell-by dates on ingredients
Basic kitchen skills: crushing garlic, grating cheese, squeezing citrus fruit, cracking eggs, kneading dough, rolling out dough, greasing and lining cake tins, and… washing-up!
Here are the dishes that they will prepare this summer for your enjoyment:
Apple-muffins, Fruit roll cake, Fresh veggie pizza, Cheese funny faces, Dogs in a sweater, Sausage and cheese bread, Tater Tot Casserole
