Senior School

The Grade 4 to 8 curriculum prepares students for success in corresponding subject areas and international exams at the secondary level.

French immersion is a key part of the curriculum until the end of Grade 8. From Grades 4 to 8, French and English instruction share equal time. In Grade 9 the programme will be divided into an Immersion stream and an English stream. The Immersion stream will maintain a 50% ratio of both languages. Math and science continue to be taught in English whereas social studies are taught in French. The English stream includes one daily French period. Mandarin and Japanese classes (with small teacher-student ratios) are offered in all senior grades.

Starting in Grade 4, math and science are “team-taught” by a specialist and the homeroom teacher. This strategy combines subject expertise with discipline-specific language skills – a successful formula exclusive to The Giles School. Students begin laboratory courses in chemistry, biology and physics in Grade 5.
